MotionCue Press Kit

Everything on this page may be used in coverage of MotionCue. Updated August 2026.

MotionCue is a calm nudge to actually stretch during your workday: one 30-second, expert-sourced move at a time, spaced through your day so it taps you on the shoulder without yanking you out of flow. Native iPhone + Apple Watch. Every stretch cites a real source (Mayo Clinic, Cleveland Clinic, Harvard Health, APTA) with a tappable citation. Ten visual themes, each with its own composed music. Local-first and private: no accounts, no ads, no data sold, and an honest up-front price.

What's new

Pacts (1.8). The social layer, rebuilt around one person instead of a crowd. A pact is one partner and one shared minute ("weekdays at 3"); both phones cue at the same moment, and every day you both move grows a shared watercolor garden. The garden never dies and never resets: a missed day only softens its color, and coming back revives it. You can water your partner's side twice a week, and instead of a stream of pings a pact sends one Sunday Letter, which contains no failure copy at all. The quietest possible week reads "The garden rested this week."

Stillness (1.9). Move Me nudges can now anchor to when you actually stopped moving rather than to the clock, so a nudge is far less likely to fire while you are already up and walking. It is opt-in, reads recent step counts only at the moment it plans a nudge, and stores, syncs and sends nothing. It came directly from a Product Hunt launch-day request.

The story

MotionCue was built by Brian Bills of Lake Oswego, Oregon, an education consultant (principal of AcerLogic Educational Services). He is not a developer.

The deeper he fell down the AI rabbit hole, the more hours he spent hunched at his desk, and his body started sending invoices: stiff neck, tight shoulders, the hunch you only notice when you finally stand up. MotionCue is the app he built, over ten months and with AI tools as his only engineering team, to pay the tab.

Things he cared about: every stretch cites its source (one of 36 is deliberately text-only because animating it honestly wasn't possible); the reminder finds your wrist so your phone stays away; each theme's music is composed in-house so it loops seamlessly and belongs to the app; honest money with an up-front trial and no dark patterns.
